The medieval city of Guérande

It’s known as the “Carcassonne of the West”. A historic gem and a must-see tourist attraction in the Loire-Atlantique region, the city of Guérande has kept its medieval ramparts and defensive towers intact. A visit to the walled city is a must for your camping vacation!

Testifying to the prestige of the fortified city during the Renaissance, the Tour Saint-Michel houses a museum dedicated to the history of Guérande during the reign of the Dukes of Brittany. A unique opportunity to take a walk on the heights of the ramparts. Around the collegiate church of Saint-Aubin, stroll along the cobbled streets between stores and hidden treasures!

The medieval town of Guérande is famous for its large weekly markets. They attract many visitors all year round, and even more in summer! Every Wednesday and Saturday, colorful stalls take their place behind the ramparts, around Saint-Aubin Cathedral and the covered market.

A not-to-be-missed event for tourism in Loire-Atlantique, they provide an opportunity to meet local producers in a warm, festive atmosphere. The terraces are full. It’s almost time to sit down to a galette!
